The Debates and Seminars Committee of GDC Boniyar, organized one day seminar on “Relevance of Socio-Religious Philosophy of Dr. Sir Mohammad Iqbal”. Iqbal Day is observed annually on November 9th to commemorate the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, one of the greatest poets and philosophers. In honor of his legacy, our college organized a memorable celebration on 12/11/2024 to highlight his contributions and ideals.
Event Highlights: The event began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. Student Qari, Mohammad Shafiq, by his melodious voice, inscribed the divine message on the hearts of the audience. The recitation was followed by Naat-e-Rasool SAW performed by Kulsooma from Semester Ist. Dr. Muskan Ameen in her welcome address cordially welcomed all the participants. She set the tune for the further proceedings, acknowledging Iqbal’s significance and contribution. The highlight of the event was the inaugural speech delivered by the worthy Principal, Prof. Dr. Parveena Kousar wherein she deliberated upon different key concepts of the Iqbalian Philosophy. The speaker eloquently summarized the significance of Iqbal’s philosophy in contemporary times, particularly emphasizing Iqbalian values of humility, resilience, pursuit of knowledge and justice. Afterward, well-prepared speeches on the life and philosophy of Allama Iqbal were delivered by the student participants. The speakers highlighted Iqbal’s philosophy of “Khudi” (selfhood), Tawheed, Ishq-e-Rasool and his vision of Education. All the speakers stressed on imbibing the Iqbalian values and vision for building a prosperous society, which, they insisted, can only be build through self-awareness, education, and moral integrity. The Programme also incorporated cultural events in the form of musical performance of Iqbal’s Poems showcasing the musical beauty of Iqbal’s poetry and its cultural resonance. Dr. Aijaz Ahmad from the Department of Sociology highlighted the contemporary challenges of the Muslim Ummah and the relevance of Sir Mohammad Iqbal’s thought in wrestling with those challenges. He reminded the audience of Iqbal’s role in awakening the youth of his time and left the audience with a renewed sense of purpose. Sheikh Lubna Gazal and Dr. Muskan engaged the audience by singing Gazal and Nazam respectively in their melodious voices. Their efforts were highly applauded by the audience. The concluding remarks were presented by Mr. Javaid Ayub Sheikh, Coordinator of the Programme wherein he impressively summed up the entire proceedings under five major philosophical concepts of Dr. Iqbal: Back to Quran, Back to Prophetic Seerah, Ishq, Khudi and Ijtihad. He lucidly explained all of them quoting Iqbal’s poetic verses. The programme formally concluded by a vote of thanks presented by Dr.Imran Majeed Bhat, Co-coordinator Debates and Seminar Committee.
Speech Competition: The Program incorporated speech competition on the theme ‘Iqbal’s relevance today’ added an interactive dimension to the event. Students eloquently shared their thoughts on how Iqbal’s ideas about self-reliance, leadership, and education still hold relevance today. The top three positions were awarded certificates, cash prizes and books; rest of the speakers was awarded participation certificates and mementos. This appreciation was aimed to encourage students to continue engaging with Iqbal’s philosophy and legacy. This event provided an invaluable opportunity for students and the faculty alike to reflect afresh on the philosophical thought of Iqbal.
At the end, Worthy Principal Mam congratulated Mr. Javaid Ayub,Convener Debates and Seminars Committee for successfully concluding such a mega event with such a zeal and enthusiasm.
